STEUBEN CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office says that a man is in custody after he was tied to a theft in July through a tip to Crime Stoppers.
Police say that Jonathan Meek turned over the stolen property after he was presented with evidence of his involvement and was charged with felony theft on Thursday.
The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office released the following:
An arrest has been made in connection with a theft investigation that occurred back on 07/30/2024 in the 1800 block of West SR 120 in rural Jamestown Township. On 08/08/2024, Sheriff’s detectives followed up on a Crime Stoppers tip on the possible identity of a suspect involved in the incident.
At around 10:00 am, detectives made contact with 37-year-old Jonathan C. Meek of Angola, IN in the 100 block on N Williams St in Angola and questioned him about his alleged involvement in the theft. After initially denying any involvement and being confronted with evidence, Meek then voluntarily produced the stolen property in question.
Meek was then voluntarily came into the Sheriff’s Office for a subsequent interview. Following that interview with detectives, Meek was taken into custody and booked into the Steuben County Jail on one count of level 6 felony theft with a previous conviction. He remains held in lieu of a $3,000.00 bond. The stolen property was also returned to the owner undamaged. The Sheriff’s Office would like to thank all those who assisted with tips and information.
