DEKALB CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office says one person was hurt in a crash on Tuesday. It happened after a van tried to pass on a double yellow line and hit another vehicle, according to police.
Just before 2:30 p.m., police were called to the 500 block of SR 1 near Hamilton for a crash involving a van and a car.
According to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, the van was heading south when the driver attempted to pass an unknown vehicle on a stretch of road with a double yellow line. As the van attempted to pass the vehicle, a car was driving north on SR 1 and approaching the van head-on.
Both the van and the car swerved, causing the car to crash into the passenger side of the van.
Arlan Schmucker, 19, of Harlan, was driving the van and was cited for improper passing.
The driver of the car was transported to a hospital for arm pain and released.
The DeKalb Co. Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Hamilton Town Marshal’s Office; Hamilton Fire; Parkview EMS, and Central Communications.
