FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Fort Wayne Police Department says over a dozen people were able to get out after smelling smoke in an apartment Friday.
Just before 9 p.m., crews responded just north of downtown to 801 Tennessee Avenue.
The FWFD says that firefighters found smoke in the second-floor hallway when they arrived. They worked to open up the ceilings and found the flames in the attic and walls of the building.
The fire was contained to the area and under control by in less than 15 minutes.
One dog was rescued from an apartment. 15 people in the initial unit self-evacuated. No one was injured in the fire.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to the report of smoke in the building at 801 Tennessee Ave. Units arrived to find occupants outside and minor smoke in the second floor hallway. Crews opened up the ceilings and found fire working in the attic and wall area. Lines were deployed while other crews made sure everyone was out of the immediate area. 1 dog came out of the apartment next to the fire. The fire was contained to an area, extinguished and overhauled. No injuries were reported at this time. The fire is currently under investigation. Assisting at the scene was FWPD, N.H.C., A.E.P., F.W. Animal Control and T.R.A.A.
