Good morning. Very late last evening, we became aware that a student at Maple Creek Middle School became upset and made a threat to commit violence today at Maple Creek.
An investigation was immediately conducted following our school safety crisis plan and in coordination with our district school resource officers and the Allen County Sheriff’s Department. As a result, the student was taken into custody late last evening and at this time there is no immediate or ongoing threat at Maple Creek Middle School.
As a result of the swift action by law enforcement officials, there will be no change in regular school activities today at Maple Creek, but you may notice an increased police presence at our schools.
Northwest Allen County Schools would like to thank the administration at Maple Creek Middle School and our school resource officers from the Allen County Sheriff’s Department for their work on this investigation. NACS is fortunate to have a strong partnership with local law enforcement working to keep our students, staff, and our schools safe.
Most importantly, we appreciate those who came forward to report this incident. Please remember if you see something, say something. Tips can and should be reported immediately by directly speaking with administrators or counselors. Providing timely information and concerns assists us in keeping our schools safe. Another way to quickly and safely share information is to use Anonymous QuickTips on the NACS district website or any of our school websites.
Sincerely,
Wayne Barker
Superintendent | Northwest Allen County Schools
