FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Police are looking for the driver of a Dodge Charger that struck a minor on a motorcycle Sunday afternoon.
According to the FWPD, it happened just after 1:30 p.m. at the intersection of St. Joe Center Road and Arlington Parkway.
The male juvenile was on a “motocross-style motorcycle” when it collided with the car.
The boy was found in the roadway and then transported to a hospital to be treated for life-threatening injuries. Police say it isn’t clear who had the right-of-way.
However, the driver of the Charger left the scene and officers are still attempting to locate him. Police say they’ve attempted to make contact with the driver but have not had success. It is not clear how they learned of his identity.
The Fort Wayne Police Department released the following:
On July 2nd, 2022 at approximately 1:36 PM officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the Intersection of St. Joe Center Rd and N. Arlington Pkwy in reference to a vehicle accident. Dispatch was advised a grey Dodge Charger struck a motorcycle. The caller advised the drive of the motorcycle was in the roadway not moving and it appeared to be a motor cross style of motorcycle.
When officers arrived on scene, they discovered a male juvenile lying in the street unresponsive. Medics arrived and immediately transported the juvenile to a local hospital for medical attention. The juvenile suffered life threatening injuries and is currently being treated.
The preliminary investigation indicates the following. A Dodge Charger and a motorcycle were the only vehicles involved in the collision. The sedan was traveling east bound on St. Joe Center Rd attempting to go through the intersection at Arlington Pkwy. The motorcycle was traveling north on Arlington Pkwy and attempted to make a right turn onto St. Joe Center Rd when it turned in front of the sedan. The sedan struck the rear of the motorcycle. A male juvenile was operating the motorcycle and a male adult was operating the sedan. It is unknown at this time who may have had the right-of-way.
The driver of the sedan left the scene. Officers attempted to make contact with the driver at his home and calling his cell phone, but no contact was made. Officers are still attempting to locate the driver. It is unknown if the drive of sedan had any injuries.
The Fort Wayne Police Department Fatal Accident Crash Team (FACT) and Air Support Unit (ASU) was called out to the scene for a thorough investigation. This incident remains under investigation by the City of Fort Wayne Police and the Allen County Prosecutors office. East and West traffic at St. Joe Center Rd at Arlington Pkwy was closed.
