UPDATE (October 18, 2023):
The Allen County Coroner has identified a man who took his own life while incarcerated at the Allen County Jail. The coroner says that Jonathan Ohlwine died at the hospital after he was transported when jail staff called.
The Allen County Coroner’s Office released the following:
On October 11, 2023, at about 1139 hours the Allen County Coroner’s Office was notified of a critical injury incident at the Allen County Jail. An inmate was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, after an apparent suicide attempt. Death was pronounced in the hospital at about 1530 hours on October 13, 2023.
Autopsy and notification to the next of kin of Jonathan Michael Ohlwine, Male, White 35 years of age from Fort Wayne, Indiana have been completed.
Cause of Death has been determined to be Complications of Ligature Compression of Neck and the Manner of Death is Suicide.
The investigation continues by the Allen County Sheriff’s Department and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – An Allen County Jail inmate is hospitalized after being found unconscious in his cell after a suicide attempt.
He is in critical condition. Indiana State Police are handling the investigation into his suicide attempt.
No details on the inmate have been released.
The Allen County Sheriff’s Department released the following:
On October 11, 2023, at approximately 9:55 A.M., confinement officers at the Allen County Jail requested EMS after finding an adult male inmate unconscious. The Fort Wayne Fire Department and TRAA medics arrived, as well as Allen County Sheriff’s Department personnel, including the Criminal Investigations Division. A preliminary investigation indicated that the inmate attempted suicide. The inmate was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
The Indiana State Police were brought in as a standard procedure with an incident of this nature. They are conducting an independent investigation.
This investigation is ongoing.
