UPDATE (September 18, 2023):
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Three people have been arrested in a Friday morning shooting that killed one man and injured another in Fort Wayne.
A high-speed chase that ended near Interstate 469 and US-27 with a crash resulted in the arrests of Royal Davis and Jessica Fuentes, and Robert Ward was arrested around 2 a.m. Saturday.
Fuentes and Davis are both charged with murder and attempted murder, and Ward is charged with robbery resulting in death.
On Monday, the Allen County Coroner released the identity of the man who was killed. The coroner says that 28-year-old Travis Gilbert’s death was a homicide. (See coroner’s release below)
The FWPD released the following:
On September 15th, 2023 at approximately 1:20 am, the FWPD responded to a shooting at 2022 St. Mary’s Ave.. Upon arrival, officers located one deceased male inside the residence and a second male suffering a non-life threatening injury. The FWPD Homicide Unit responded to the scene and took over the investigation. At approximately 7:25 pm, officers attempted a traffic stop near Williams St. and Harrison St. to take Royal Davis and Jessica Fuentes into custody. The suspect vehicle fled the scene and led officers on a high speed pursuit that terminated near I-469 and US 27 after the vehicle crashed. Both suspects were taken into custody after fleeing on foot. A third suspect, Robert Ward, was taken into custody in the 1400 block of Dubois St. at approximately 2:00 am on 09/16/2023. Assisting in this investigation was the FWPD Gang unit, Vice/Narcotics, Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, and Crime Scene detectives.
The Allen County Coroner’s Office released the following:
On September 15, 2023, at about 0134 hours the Allen County Coroner’s Office was notified of a shooting investigation, with fatality, located in the 2000 block of St. Mary’s Avenue in Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana.
Emergency services were dispatched to the scene and 1 person was pronounced deceased by Three Rivers Ambulance Authority Medics.
An autopsy has been completed along with identification and notification to the next of kin of Travis Gilbert, Male, White 28 years of age from Fort Wayne, Indiana. Cause of Death has been determined to be Gunshot Wound of the Chest and the Manner of Death is Homicide. Travis W. Gilbert is the 17th Homicide in Allen County, Indiana for 2023. The investigation continues by the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.
ORIGINAL STORY:
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Fort Wayne Police Department says two people were shot overnight and one of them was killed. Just after 1:15 a.m., officers were called to the 2000 block of Saint Mary’s Avenue on reports of the shooting.
They found both men who had been shot. One of them was pronounced dead at the scene. The other was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
Police are reportedly looking for a light-colored vehicle that could have been involved although they did not release any specific suspect information.
They are asking anyone with information to come forward.

On Friday, September 15th, 2023, at approximately 1:20AM, officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the 2000 block of St Mary’s Ave in reference to reports of a shooting. FWPD arrived on scene and located both males suffering from gunshot wounds.
Responding officers rendered aid, while awaiting the arrival of medics who later transported one male to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The second male was pronounced deceased on scene.
FWPD Homicide, Crime Scene Technicians and Aerial Support Unit were called out to process the scene. Detectives are going door to door attempting to locate witnesses and/or video surveillance.
