SPEEDWAY, Ind. (ADAMS) – IndyCar officials are reviewing a crash that sent a tire over the fence at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The wheel was knocked off outside Turn 2 during the 107th running of the Indianapolis 500. It hit a parked car, damaging it, but no one was injured.
IndyCar has required a wheel-suspension tether for 24 years. After reviewing the tire that flew off the vehicle Sunday, IndyCar found the tether did not fail.
They are doing further review in an effort to prevent this type of incident in the future.
