INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (ADAMS) – There’s a move at the Indiana Capitol to make the state’s hate crime laws a little more specific.
Democratic Representative Greg Porter says the hate crime law that passed back in 2019 doesn’t include enough guidance as to just what is a hate crime, and who is protected.
Porter says the law also gives judges too much latitude when it comes to sentencing.
Republican leaders say they intentionally left some room in the law, so the law can be applied to future protected groups as well.
