FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Embassy Theatre has been working on the intricate task of replacing 318 windows to protect an important piece of Fort Wayne’s architectural history.
The replacement of windows on the second through the seventh floors began in the spring of 2022.
Representatives released the following:
The new windows, designed by Marvin Windows and installed by Weigand Construction and O’Neil’s Glass, will ensure the Embassy continues to be properly protected against the elements that cause degradation to the structure.
The Embassy says that fundraising continues to support this effort in preserving and upgrading the iconic facility.
“The project not only enhances the historic beauty of the building, it will help with the sustainability of the Embassy’s resources. We have been planning for this project since 2019 and being able to see our national theater’s exterior preserved is a nod to the careful planning, pride and great care we commit to this historic gem,” commented Mary Jo Hardiman, chief operating officer.
The windows have also been designed to be up to five times more energy efficient, bringing down the nonprofit’s operational costs. The replacement project will restore the exterior of the windows to their original color. Phase one of this project will cost $1.9M and is being funded through grants, sponsorships and individual donations. With $1.45M already raised, the organization has nearly $460K left to fundraise.
“This is a great opportunity to give a legacy gift or simply support a legacy project as the Embassy will give back to the community for generations to come. It is a perfect opportunity to support downtown vibrancy and regional arts and cultural programming,” said Kent Castleman, chief philanthropy officer.
Multiple donation options are available; pledged gifts may be paid in increments over the course of three years. For additional information on the project and to donate, click here.
