FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Officials with the Fort Wayne Police Department say that a man was taken into custody after conducting a warrant search at a Barr Street home on Wednesday night.
According to the FWPD, the Vice and Narcotics Unit was conducting surveillance to serve a felony arrest warrant for 22-year-old Joseph Berumen at a residence in the 3000 block of Barr St. Police say that Joseph Berumen was wanted for a preliminary charge of unlawful carrying of a handgun.
Just before 10:45 p.m., officers confirmed that Berumen was inside. However, officials say he refused to come out. Police at the scene tried several times to get him to come out on his own, but the attempts were unsuccessful.
Additional units, including Allen County SWAT and the FWPD Air Support Unit, were called to the scene. Shortly after they arrived Berumen came out voluntarily and was arrested.

The Fort Wayne Police Department Vice and Narcotics Unit were conducting surveillance to serve a felony arrest warrant for Joseph Berumen at a residence on the 3000 block of Barr St. Confirmation was made that Joseph was in the residence, but he refused to come out. Numerous attempts were made to have Joseph exit voluntarily, but were unsuccessful. Allen County SWAT and Negotiators and FWPD Air Support Unit were paged to the scene. Shortly after arrival of the tactical units Joseph exited the residence voluntarily and was placed in custody without incident.
