FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Fort Wayne Fire Department says that one person had to be rescued from an apartment fire Friday night.
Crews responded just before midnight to a building in the Chase Manor apartments at 641 Tennessee Avenue.
Crews found heavy smoke and fire coming from the second floor. Once firefighters made entry, they found one person and rescued them from the flames. That person was taken to a local hospital. Their condition is unknown at this time.
FWFD crews were able to gain control of the fire in less than 30 minutes. The cause is still under investigation.
It is not clear how many people were displaced as a result. However, the Red Cross has reportedly opened a shelter for fire victims.

Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to an apartment fire at address stated. Upon arrival, fire personnel found heavy smoke and fire showing from second floor apartment. Fire crews pulled hose lines to attack fire and performed search of second floor apartments. Fire crews found 1 victim in fire apartment and rescued victim out of apartment. Victim was transported by TRAA Medics to area hospital. Fire crews extinguished fire in apartment and continued to evacuate all apartments in building with assistance from FWPD. Fire crews ventilated structure of all smoke and salvaged apartments from water, smoke and fire damage. Fire was deemed under control in about 30 minutes. Fire Investigators arrived to investigate cause and origin. Fire cause is still under investigation. Fort Wayne Fire Department was assisted by FWPD, TRAA Medics, NCE, and AEP, and American Red Cross.
