FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Officials say that a fort Wayne firefighter was hurt while trying to put out an apartment fire on the city’s southwest Thursday morning.
Crews were called around 10 a.m. to 5517 Lois Lane, in the Time Corners Crossing Apartments complex off Getz Road.
Units arrived to find smoke around the front door. Once inside the apartment, a small fire was found in a back bedroom, according to a report from the FWPD.
The fire was brought under control in 20 minutes, according to the report.
According to officials, no one was home at the time of the fire. Neighbors were evacuated as a precaution.
One firefighter was injured and transported to a local medical facility. Their injuries and current condition are not known.
The unit suffered minor to moderate fire, smoke, and water damage. The official cause is still under investigation.

Fort Wayne firefighters responded to a reported fire in an apartment at 5517 Lois Lane this morning. First arriving units found smoke showing from the front door. On further investigation, firefighters found a small fire in the back bedroom. Firefighters extinguished the fire in approximately 20 minutes. No one was home at the time of the blaze. Neighbors were evacuated as a precaution. One firefighter was injured and transported to a local medical facility. Firefighters were assisted by FWPD, NCE, Red Cross, AEP and NIPSCO. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
