FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Fort Wayne Police Department’s Gang & Violent Crime Unit may have kept a bad situation from becoming much worse when officials say that GVCU officers encountered an active shooting while on patrol in the area of Gaywood Drive and Senate Avenue Tuesday afternoon.
Officials say that officers were in the area just after 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday and witnessed a man actively shooting into a moving occupied vehicle.
The FWPD says the officer quickly detained the individual and recovered two handguns.
Other officers stopped the vehicle that was being shot at and detained the four occupants. No injuries were reported during this shooting.
All the subjects involved in this incident were brought to the Police Operations Center for questioning. Police say any charges in the case are pending.
This incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office.
