FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Are you vegan or vegetarian? A new list of herbivore havens has been released by WalletHub. The new ranking of veggie-friendly American cities can be found in full here
100 of the biggest cities were analyzed according to the affordability of a vegetarian lifestyle, diversity, quality, and events like festivals and meetups.
Portland, Orlando, and Los Angeles are the top three cities for meat-free eaters. The four worst cities to be a vegetarian are in California: Fremont, Chula Vista, San Jose, and San Bernardino. Surprisingly (or not surprisingly for us in the Summit City), Fort Wayne cracked the top 20. Coming in at 19 overall, WalletHub ranked the following for the city:
The Vegetarian & Vegan Lifestyle in Fort Wayne (1=Best; 50=Avg.):
1st – Cost of Groceries for Vegetarians
40th – % of Restaurants Serving Vegetarian Options
51st – % of Restaurants Serving Vegan Options
39th – Vegetable Nurseries per Capita
To determine the best and cheapest places for following a plant-based diet, WalletHub compared the 100 largest cities across 17 key indicators of vegan- and vegetarian-friendliness. The data set ranges from the share of restaurants serving meatless options to the cost of groceries for vegetarians to salad shops per capita.
