FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Representatives with the City of Fort Wayne and the Fort Wayne Police Department put out a call for crossing guards.
According to Jeremy Webb, Public Information Officer with the FWPD, the city is short on crossing guards and is asking people to apply online to be considered for the position of helping our kids to school safely.
There are seven open positions for Fort Wayne Community Schools crossing guards.
Crossing Guard Requirements:
Must be at least 18 years of age
Have transportation to and from intersection
Complete an application
Pass a background check and drug test
Pay is $13.73 an hour

Working under the direction of the Sergeant of Crime Prevention/Child Safety Bureaus, incumbent supplies safety and adult supervision to children prior to and directly after school at dangerous street crossings. The incumbent is expected to exercise good judgment, independence, initiative, and professional expertise in conducting day-to-day operations. All work duties and activities must be performed in accordance with the City safety rules and operating regulations, policies and procedures as well as federal, state, and local regulations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the ability to interact with the public, City incumbents, and outside agencies with patience, tact, respect, and professionalism and the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Supervises children at busy crossing intersections;
Familiarizes self with intersections;
Reports irregularities to supervisor, i.e., broken stop lights, torn down stop signs;
Supplies safety and supervision to young children.
