FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Allen County Coroner says that a man struck by a pickup truck on Illinois Road died from his injuries. It happened on Sunday night in front of the entrance to Timberlake Trail.
Around 9:40 p.m., officers with the FWPD responded after 31-year-old Tareq H. Abdel-Khaleq was hit by the truck. He was listed in critical condition but later died of injuries related to the crash. His death has been ruled accidental.
Police said the driver of the truck is cooperating with the investigation.
The Allen County Coroner’s Office released the following:
The Allen County Coroner’s Office has identified, and made notification to the next of kin of the deceased individual that was involved in a bicycle versus motor vehicle crash on Illinois Road and Timberlake Trail, in Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana, at about 21:39 hours, Sunday, May 1, 2022. He has been identified as Tareq H. Abdel-Khaleq a male, white, age 31, of Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Tareq H. Abdel-Khaleq was the rider of a bicycle that was struck by a motor vehicle. Tareq H. Abdel-Khaleq was transported to a local hospital where death was pronounced during the early morning hours of May 2, 2022.
Tareq H. Abdel-Khaleq’s Cause of Death is Multiple Blunt Force Injuries due to Bicycle Versus Motor Vehicle Crash, and the Manner of Death is Accident Tareq H. Abdel-Khaleq is the 14th traffic fatality for Fort Wayne and Allen County in 2022. The incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.
The Fort Wayne Police Department released the following on Sunday night:
On Sunday, 05/01/2022, at approximately 9:39 PM, the City of Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the intersection of Illinois Road and Timberlake Trail reference a vehicle crash with injuries. Officers arrived and located an injured bicyclist near the intersection.
Investigators advised the driver of a pick-up truck was traveling eastbound on Illinois Road.
As the pick-up truck entered the intersection at Timberlake Trail it struck the male/adult bicyclist that was attempting to cross Illinois Road northbound.
The bicyclist was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the pick-up truck remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. This incident remains under investigation by the City of Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
