FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Fort Wayne police say a New Haven man is now facing charges after breaking into an ex-girlfriend’s home and firing a gun inside before attacking and beating her.
Officers were called around 1:15 a.m. on January 6 to a home in the 1300 block of Fay Drive on a report of an armed man.
A caller said six shots were fired and that they could hear a woman screaming after a door had been kicked in.

On Thursday, January 6th, 2022 at approximately 1:16 am The Fort Wayne Police Department responded to a party-armed investigation that was reported on the 1300 block of Fay Dr. The Caller reported hearing 6 shots and a door being kicked in. The Caller also reported hearing a female scream and could hear people outside. Numerous Callers called 911 to report hearing gunshots.
Upon arrival Officers located an adult female Victim lying on the road. The Victim’s ex-boyfriend, Jeffery Harris had arrived at the Victim’s house unannounced and kicked in the back door and forced entry into the residence. Witnesses stated that Jeffrey then pulled out a gun and began firing into the residence and at its occupants. No occupants were struck by gunshots. Witnesses stated that Jeffery followed the Victim outside and battered her, causing serious bodily injury (non-life threatening).
There were multiple bullet holes and shell casings located inside the residence. Jeffery Harris was gone prior to Police arrival. Jeffery was arrested hours later on a traffic stop without incident.
Arrested: Jeffery Harris, 29 years of age from New Haven, Indiana
Preliminary Charges: Domestic Battery Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury (Level 5 Felony), Domestic Battery (Misd.), Strangulation (Level 6 Felony), Burglary resulting in Serious Bodily Injury and with a Deadly Weapon (Level 2 Felony), Criminal Recklessness Shooting a Firearm into a building (Level 5 Felony), Carrying a Handgun without a License by a Convicted Felon (Level 5 Felony).
