FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – With the cold temperatures and wind chills the City’s winter weather contingency plan is in place.
Under the plan, several groups will provide overnight accommodations for individuals and families in need this winter season.
Through a partnership between the City of Fort Wayne and several social service agencies, the community’s winter weather contingency plan is in effect and runs through March 1, 2022.
The City of Fort Wayne released the following:
The Rescue Mission will be the primary provider for the winter weather contingency plan offering shelter and food during the day to men, women, and children needing assistance. The daytime warming shelter will be available every day from 7:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Overnight accommodations will be available to those in need when temperatures drop below 32 degrees. The Rescue Mission will provide overnight accommodations for adult men; however, help may be requested from additional partners if necessary.
Those partners include:
Just Neighbors Interfaith Homeless Network will provide overnight shelter for families with children.
St. Joseph Missions Women’s Shelter will coordinate overnight shelter for single women.
The Salvation Army will serve as a backup provider of overnight accommodations to men, women and children.
In addition, The Rescue Mission also oversees the intake of all individuals and families in need of shelter. Anyone in need of shelter needs to first start at The Rescue Mission and not go directly to the other organization providing help.
