FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The widow of an Allen County Jail inmate is suing the sheriff’s department and correctional officers over his death. Gabriela Apodaca has filed a wrongful death lawsuit after her husband Jose Trejo died at the jail in October 2024.
The coroner ruled the 25-year-old died of fentanyl toxicity and had only been in jail for a few days.
Apodaca is seeking the maximum of $750,000. She is suing Sheriff Troy Hershberger for liability in her husband’s death.
