FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – On May 18, the City of Fort Wayne Traffic Operations Department will begin its annual street line painting program. The City says that the goal is to enhance visibility and safety on our roadways.
This essential maintenance work helps guide motorists, delineate lanes, and ultimately contributes to safer travel for everyone in our community.
Drivers are advised to exercise extreme caution when encountering line painting crews.
The City released the following:
Important Safety Reminders:
DO NOT drive over wet paint lines (yellow or white). Crossing wet paint can damage your vehicle, spread paint to unintended areas, and create a hazard for other drivers.
Reduce speed when approaching and driving near line painting crews.
Maintain a safe following distance from the painting equipment.
Obey all traffic control devices and personnel directing traffic around the work area.
Be aware that cones or other markers may not be placed on every wet stripe, so it is crucial to avoid driving over any freshly painted lines.
Even if the paint truck isn’t visible, lines may still be wet and motorists should avoid driving over them.
Road markings are vital for traffic management and safety, providing essential guidance to drivers, especially in areas with changing road layouts or in low-light conditions. Public cooperation in observing these safety precautions is appreciated to ensure the well-being of both crews and motorists.
Residents are encouraged to stay informed about these important road maintenance activities HERE
Look for the yellow lines labeled “Pavement Markings” on the Street Painting Schedule map.
