MIAMI CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – The death of a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainee at the Miami Correctional Facility has been ruled to be from natural causes. Miami County Coroner John Boyer says Lorth Sim’s death on February 16th was due to cardiovascular disease, “with other significant conditions of diabetes mellitus.” ICE has not responded to requests for information on their investigation into his death. Sims was arrested in Boston at an ICE office on December 30th and was the seventh person in ICE custody to die this year.

ORIGINAL STORY:
MIAMI CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – An investigation is underway after a 59-year-old man died in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody at the Miami Correctional Facility.
Lorth Sim of Cambodia was found unresponsive in his cell on Monday morning, ICE shared on Wednesday. The agency says Sim became a lawful permanent resident of the U.S. in 1986, but has reportedly been arrested for disorderly conduct, indecent exposure, and larceny since then.
Sim was arrested by ICE on December 30th. His cause of death is being investigated.
