FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Fort Wayne Fire Department says one person has died in a house fire late last night.
They responded to the flames at the home in the 2700 block of Sterling Street, near Goshen Road and I-69, around 11:45 p.m. Three people and a dog were able to evacuate, and one person is hospitalized with serious injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to the report of a structure on fire with flames and smoke visible and people possibly still inside the structure. Multiple FWFD units arrived on scene and started a quick attack of the fire along with other crews entering the structure from multiple sides trying to locate any one still inside. Crews were able to locate one person inside the house, but unfortunately, they had already perished. Crews continued searching for other occupants and none were found inside. One other occupant, who self-evacuated, was transported to an area hospital for serious injuries. The fire was brought under control in about one hour. Multiple crews will remain on scene working hot spots throughout the night. Investigations will continue. Assisting at the scene was FWPD, NHC, NIPSCO,AEP,
