DELAWARE CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – A Delaware County Sheriff’s deputy is being mourned after a crash near Gaston. Corporal Blake Reynolds was helping a broken-down semi-truck on I-69 near Gaston when his patrol vehicle was hit by another truck.
Reynolds was struck during the collision on Wednesday morning and did not survive his injuries. Indiana State Police are investigating the crash.

The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office is mourning the loss of one of its deputies, who was killed early this morning while assisting a motorist along Interstate 69.
At approximately 3:30 a.m., emergency personnel responded to a crash in the northbound lanes of Interstate 69 near the 247-mile marker. Preliminary investigation indicates the deputy had stopped to assist a disabled semi truck that was partially in the roadway. While on scene, another northbound semi lost control and struck both the disabled truck and the deputy’s cruiser.
The deputy was transported to Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie. Despite immediate life-saving efforts, the deputy succumbed to injuries at the hospital.
The driver of the semi that crashed, identified as Teddy Malcom Johnson, 39, of New Haven, Indiana. Johnson was transported to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis by Life Flight, where he went immediately into emergency surgery, and his condition is unknown.
The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office identified the deputy as Corporal Blake Reynolds. Corporal Reynolds is a four-year veteran of the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office.
The Indiana State Police are leading the investigation into the crash. Northbound Interstate 69 was closed for an extensive duration for the investigation and removal of the semis. All northbound lanes were back open as of 1:00 p.m.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, Grant County Sheriff’s Office, Delaware County Coroner’s Office, Fairmount Police Department, Delaware County EMS, Alexandria Fire Department, Gaston Fire/EMS, Muncie Police Department, Daleville Police Department, East Madison Fire Territory, Indiana Department of Transportation, Life Flight, and Northwest Towing assisted the Indiana State Police at the scene.
