FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Fort Wayne Fire Department (FWFD) says that several storage units were damaged in a fire on Wednesday night.
Moderate to heavy damage was reported in a fire southwest of downtown Fort Wayne on Wednesday.
The FWFD says crews were dispatched to a brush fire in the 2200 block of Broadway around 8 p.m.
Firefighters saw smoke coming from the BTE Storage facility and began to run hoses from nearby hydrants to put out the fire. A section of Broadway was shut down while crews worked to put out the flames.
It took about half an hour to completely put out the fire. The cause is still under investigation.
The FWFD released the following:
An initial FWFD unit was dispatched to a reported brush fire in the woods along the railroad tracks that cross Broadway. Upon arrival, that crew found an area of the woods on fire and saw smoke coming from a building along the woods – BTE Storage. A structure fire response was initiated, and crews rapidly arrived and began an aggressive attack on the fire that had involved several storage units in the building. Broadway was shut down so hose lines from nearby hydrants could be utilized to provide the water needed. The fire was brought under control, and numerous other storage units were opened to check for extension and cleared.
FWFD would like to thank the following for their assistance – FWPD, TRAA, NCE, Allen County Building Department.
