GRANT CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – The Grant County Sheriff’s Office says a multi-state and agency investigation recovered over $700,000 worth of Bitcoin machines that were in a highjacked cargo shipment belonging to a local company. Ultimately, it was tracked down and recovered in Chicago.
The Grant County Sheriff’s Office released the following:
On October 2nd, 2025, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office received a report of theft from “Your Choice Ever Best” Bitcoin Mining Operation here in Grant County. The company report a hijacked shipment of cargo in a semi-trailer with 100❑ Bitcoin Machines had been stolen, with estimated value of $700,000.00.
The Sheriff’s detectives conducting the investigation determined the stolen shipment was in Chicago area and were able to conduct an undercover operation to arrange the recovery of the stolen cargo. The operation was successful, and the 1000 Bitcoin machines were recovered last week with the assistance from JEAN Team DTF Sheriff and Marion PD Detectives, and Chicago Police Department.
Bitcoin mining machines are specialized computer systems used to verify cryptocurrency transactions and secure the blockchain network.
In addition to recovering the stolen Bitcoin equipment, detectives also successfully intervened in an attempted theft of $75,000 worth of frozen turkeys during the same investigation.
Sheriff Garcia acknowledges the dedication and aggressive detective work utilized in this investigation resulting in the successful operation and recovery of this cargo. The investigation is on-going and at this time, and no arrest has been made as this also involved international criminal participant.
