The Allen County Coroner’s Office says it was a 22-year-old woman behind the wheel of a car that crashed into a truck on Friday morning. The coroner says that Sydney Griffith died from injuries from the crash.

The Allen County Coroner’s Office released the following:
The Allen County Coroner’s Office has identified and made notifications to the next of kin of the deceased individual that was involved in a motor vehicle crash in the area of Illinois Road and Sutton Avenue, in Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana, at about 04:43 hours, Friday, October 24, 2025. She has been positively identified as Sydney Grace Griffith, female, White, age 22, of Fort Wayne, Indiana. She was transported to a local hospital where she later died.
Sydney Grace Griffith’s Cause of Death is Multiple Blunt Force Injuries due to Motor Vehicle Versus Semi Tractor Trailer Crash.
Sydney Grace Griffith is the 36th traffic fatality for Allen County in 2025.
The incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.

The Fort Wayne Police Department says that the driver involved in a crash early Friday morning on Illinois Road has died.

An update on this incident. The driver of the passenger vehicle has died at the hospital. Identity and cause of death will be released the Allen County Coroner’s Office.
ORIGINAL STORY:
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Fort Wayne Police Department says that a driver was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries after a crash early Friday morning.
The FWPD says that officers were called shortly before 5 a.m. to Illinois and Sutton Avenue. Officers found a sedan with heavy damage in the front, where it had run into a semi truck. The driver was trapped in the vehicle, and it took about 20 minutes to extract them. They were taken to the hospital in critical condition but were downgraded upon arrival.
The truck driver was not hurt. Police think that speed may have played a role in the crash.
The westbound lanes of Illinois Road were closed for about four hours. The roadway was reopened at 8:50 am.
The FWPD released the following:
The Fort Wayne Police Department responded to a report of a crash in the area of Illinois Rd & Sutton Ave on Friday, October 24, 2025, at approximately 4:45 am. Officers arrived on- scene to locate a sedan with heavy front-end damage and a semi stopped near the crash. Fort Wayne Fire Department was able to extract the trapped driver from the sedan within approximately 19 minutes after arriving on-scene. The driver was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. Doctors at the hospital downgraded the driver’s condition to life-threatening.
Initial information indicates the sedan and the semi were both traveling westbound on Illinois Rd. The sedan crashed into the rear of the semi’s trailer. It is currently unknown why the sedan crashed into the semi. The speed of the sedan may be a factor. The driver of the semi is cooperating with the investigation.
