FAYETTE CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – A human skull that has been determined to be over 4,200 years old was found on the bank of the Whitewater River in June.
The Fayette County coroner’s office used radiocarbon dating to determine the skull is 4,270 years old and dates back to around 2,300 B.C.
Coroner Eddie Richardson says the skull’s discovery adds a “profound historical layer” to the community. Richardson’s office is working closely with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources on the remains and handling the land where the skull was found.
