GRANT CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – The Grant County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal crash that happened on Wednesday.
Another person was flown to a Fort Wayne hospital with serious injuries.
The Grant County Sheriff’s Office released the following:
On Wednesday, October 1st, 2025, at approximately 4:14 PM (16:14 hours) the Grant County 911 Emergency Central Dispatch received call(s) reference a traffic accident involving two (2) vehicles on State Road 18 near State Road 13 in front of Oak Hilt High School with the common address of 7756 West Delphi Pike #27, Converse, IN.
On Sheriff Deputies’ arrival, it was determined the two vehicles were involved in a head on collision, with one driver still entrapped in her vehicle. The other driver was pulled out of her burning vehicle by bystanders at the scene. This driver was life-lined via medical helicopter to Fort Wayne hospital with serious injuries.
The entrapped driver was extracted from her vehicle by First Responders; Fire, Police, Medics at the scene and transported to Marion Health where she died. The deceased is a 45-year-old female from Marion. The identity is not being released currently, pending Grant County Coroner’s Office identity confirmation and notification of family. The two drivers were the only occupants in the vehicles involved.
Grant County Sheriff’s Office Crash Team is investigating the scene, and this is ongoing, so this is only preliminary information for public release and subject to change as Investigators gather more information and facts relevant to this traffic crash.
Investigators at the scene initial information and evidence appeared that one vehicle, 2014 BMW (black) was traveling westbound on State Road 18 and crossed the centerline causing the head on collision with the second vehicle, a 2023 Chevrolet (white). Multiple witnesses reported the black BMW was traveling westbound very erratic and reckless just prior to the collision.

Multiple first responding agencies were on scene assisting with the investigation, medical care, and the car fire from; Swayzee Police Department, Swayzee Fire Department, Sweetser Police Department, Pleasant Township Fire Department, Marion Health Medics, Grant County Emergency Medical Service (EMS), Grant County Emergency Management Agency (EMA), and the Grant County Coroner’s Office.
