FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – A Fort Wayne police officer is recovering after being stabbed just after 6 p.m. on Monday after responding to a domestic disturbance call on the 2100 block of Saint Mary’s Avenue.
The suspect was shot by the injured officer after the stabbing, and other officers also shot the suspect.
Both the officer and suspect are hospitalized, and the other officers are on leave during the investigation.
No names have been released.
The FWPD released the following:
On Monday, September 22nd, at approximately 5:59 p.m., Fort Wayne Police Department officers responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at 2100 St. Marys Avenue. During the course of the investigation, an altercation occurred between an individual and a Fort Wayne Police officer.
At 6:07 p.m., officers called for immediate assistance, reporting that an officer had been stabbed. In response to the threat, officers discharged their firearms. Emergency medical personnel were requested to the scene to provide treatment to both the injured officer and the suspect.
The officer was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
Investigators from the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Indiana State Police, and the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office are currently on scene. In accordance with department protocol, the officer(s) involved in the firearm discharge will be placed on administrative leave. More information will be released when available.
