FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Construction on the St. Joe River Drive Sidewalk Project will get underway this week.
(Set to begin September 22)
During construction, St. Joe River Drive will only be open to westbound traffic from North Anthony Boulevard to Parnell Avenue. The detour for eastbound traffic will utilize North Anthony, Vance Avenue and Parnell Avenue. Construction is expected to be complete by December 1.
The St. Joe River Drive Sidewalk project, an $850,000 investment, has been a top request of the Northside Neighborhood for nearly a decade, and was included as a priority project in the Historic Northeast 2035 Neighborhood Plan. The St. Joe River Drive Sidewalk project aims to improve pedestrian safety and connectivity on St. Joe River Drive between Parnell Avenue and Anthony Boulevard for residents and students in the neighborhood.
This project includes:
- New five-foot concrete sidewalk on the south side of St. Joe River Drive between Parnell Avenue and Concordia High School
- 28 new town and country streetlights to enhance pedestrian and resident safety
- Five new stormwater inlets
- ADA ramps with pavement markings
- A new 3-to-5-foot-wide park strip between St. Joe River Drive and the sidewalk to buffer pedestrians from traffic
