INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (ADAMS) – Governor Mike Braun says he is looking closely at utility rate hikes in Indiana.
On Thursday, Braun announced that he has appointed a new office and tasked it with finding ways to save money for Indiana utility customers. Braun released a statement, which reads in part, “We can’t take it anymore. I am directing the Utility Consumer Counselor, who is Indiana’s ratepayer advocate, to evaluate utilities’ profits along with other cost savings measures to ease the burden on ratepayers.”
According to the Indiana Citizens’ Action Coalition, the average electric bill in Indiana went up 17.5% last year.
