FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Fort Wayne Police Department says a woman is dead after she crashed in a vehicle that was thought to be stolen.
Police say around 7 a.m. on Wednesday, an officer saw a white Chevy Tahoe that matched the description of a stolen vehicle. When the officer was about to initiate his lights, the SUV took off, running a red light at Lake and Reed.
The Tahoe collided with another vehicle at Lake and Old Maysville Road but kept going. Eventually, the SUV ran into trees and stopped. The woman behind the wheel had to be extricated by the Fort Wayne Fire Department and was taken to a nearby hospital, where she died from her injuries. The driver of the vehicle that was hit had minor injuries.
The FWPD says the investigation is ongoing and released the following:
While patrolling the Northeast Quadrant, an officer of the Fort Wayne Police Department (FWPD) recognized a White Tahoe as matching a vehicle that had just been stolen out of the Southeast Quadrant.
