The FWPD released the following:
Officers of the Fort Wayne Police Department (FWPD) responded to a house in the 1400 block of Kitch Street regarding an armed subject suffering from a mental health crisis. Arriving officers attempted to convince the subject to come out so he could be taken for a mental health evaluation. When this attempt to de-escalate the situation failed, the Emergency Services Team (EST), the Crisis Response Team (CRT), and the Ariel Support Unit (ASU) were called to the scene.
The FWPD also initiated an IPAWS alert via the cellular network, asking citizens to stay clear of the area.
Just before 7:00 pm, the subject was taken into custody by EST without injury. The subject will be transported to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation.
There is no further threat to the public.
