COLUMBUS, Ohio (ADAMS) – Governor Mike DeWine is sharing more details on the planned deployment of Ohio National Guard members this week. The governor has confirmed that 150 military police officers will leave Ohio for Washington, D.C. Wednesday.
They will serve a 30-day deployment, running patrols and providing security at federal buildings, according to DeWine. The governor has clarified that the guard members will not be arresting citizens. DeWine says he fulfilled the request for military police officers issued by Army Secretary Daniel Driscoll because it is the “right thing to do.”
Democratic lawmakers in Ohio are criticizing the deployment and President Trump’s crackdown on alleged crime in D.C.
