FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Fort Wayne Police Department says that one person has life-threatening injuries after being hit by a Citilink bus as they were getting off.
It happened around 10:30 a.m. on Illinois Road at the stop close to Hillegas Road. Fort Wayne police say the man tripped while exiting the bus. It ran over him as it started to pull away.
The man has life-threatening injuries, according to the FWPD.
Police say they have spoken to multiple witnesses, but ask anyone else with information to come forward.
The FWPD released the following:
Fort Wayne Police Department Responded to a crash involving a Citilink bus and a pedestrian.
Upon arrival, officers found an adult male in the roadway suffering from traumatic injuries. Medics transported the subject to a local hospital where a doctor determined the subject was in life-threatening condition.
Initial statements from witnesses on scene indicated the subject stepped off the bus, and as the bus pulled away, the subject tripped on the curb and fell under the back wheels of the bus.
The FWPD FACT team was called to the scene and with the assistance of ASU, started documenting the scene. The FACT Team will work with Citilink to obtain any video that might exist on the bus.
Anyone who might have witnessed this incident and has not yet given a statement is asked to call the Fort Wayne Police Department at (260)427-1222. This incident is under investigation by the FWPD FACT Team.
