The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office:
On 07/05/2025 just before 4:30 pm, Steuben County Sheriff’s deputies and other first responders were called to the southbound lanes of I-69 near the 355 mile marker in rural Jamestown Township on report of a single vehicle crash involving a motorcycle. The 911 caller indicated that the two occupants of the motorcycle were badly injured and unconscious.
When Steuben County EMS along with Angola and Fremont Fire Rescue personnel arrived, they immediately began treating both crash victims who were in critical condition. Both victims were quickly assessed and transported to Parkview Regional Medical Center by Steuben County EMS. A preliminary crash investigation was conducted by initial responding Sheriff’s deputies.
The preliminary investigation indicated that a black 2018 Harley-Davidson Electra Glide was traveling southbound on I-69 just south of the Green Lake bridge driven by 57-year-old Michael L. Wright of Auburn, IN. Witnesses indicated that just as Wright was exiting a curve in the roadway, his head began to move up and down as the motorcycle left the east side of the roadway traveling in the grass median before colliding with a cable barrier post.
The collision caused the motorcycle to go down and both Wright and his passenger 55-year-old Victoria L. Wright of Auburn, IN were ejected from the motorcycle onto the ground. Neither were wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Despite all lifesaving efforts by EMS Personnel, Michael ultimately succumbed to his injuries and died at Parkview Regional Medical Center. Victoria remains hospitalized in serious condition.
The weather was clear and the roadway was dry at the time of the crash. It’s possible that some kind of medical event contributed to the crash, but alcohol is not believed to be a factor. The crash still remains under investigation by the Sheriffs’ Office. Assisting the Sheriff’s Office at the scene were Steuben County EMS, Angola Fire Department, Fremont Fire Department, Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Law Enforcement Division, and the Fremont Town Marshal’s Office.
