INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (ADAMS) – Smoking in Indiana is now more expensive. The state’s cigarette tax has risen from nearly $1 to $3, which is a 200 percent increase. The hike is part of the 2025 state budget to help address a $2.4 billion shortfall.
It is the first increase in cigarette taxes in Indiana in nearly 20 years and is projected to generate $400 million a year.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (ADAMS) – A tax hike on cigarettes goes into effect in Indiana next month. Starting July 1st, the cost of a pack of cigarettes will go up by $1.
This comes as the result of state lawmakers approving an increase in taxes on tobacco products.
The tax is expected to bring in an additional $400 million for the state in 2026.
