INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (ADAMS) – Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita is asking for an execution date for death row inmate Roy Lee Ward. He is from Spencer County and was convicted of raping and killing 15-year-old Stacy Payne in 2007. The Indiana Supreme Court will decide what Ward’s execution date will be.
The request comes as Governor Mike Braun has publicly said that the state is out of the very pricey execution drugs.
Some lawmakers are pushing the governor to do away with the death penalty in the state.
Braun has said that he is open to addressing how to move forward with executions. But he added that he does not want to spend $300,000 for a drug that just has a 90-day shelf life.
