FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – A garage in Fort Wayne that was being used to store fireworks has been destroyed in a fire. The flames started just before 7:00 p.m. Sunday night in the garage in the 600 block of West State Boulevard.
The Fort Wayne Fire Department (FWFD) says the garage and a vehicle were found engulfed in flames by firefighters.
No one was injured, but nearby buildings suffered heat damage.
The FWFD released the following:
Fort Wayne 911 Communications received a call reporting a detached garage on fire behind 633 W. State Blvd. Multiple bystanders also called in to report the incident. A Fort Wayne Fire Engine arrived on the scene within three minutes and found both the building and a vehicle heavily involved in flames. Several explosions were heard as the garage was being used to store fireworks.
Multiple fire companies used large-caliber streams both inside and outside the building to extinguish the fire. The electrical power line to the structure also burned away. Nearby structures sustained minor damage due to the high heat. The fire was brought under control in 11 minutes. No one was in the building at the time of the fire, and there were no reported injuries.
The incident is under investigation. Several agencies collaborated to resolve this emergency, including 911 Communications, Fort Wayne Police, Three Rivers Ambulance, Neighborhood Code Enforcement, and AEP.
