FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Humane Fort Wayne is launching a new, free, 24-hour microchip scanning station, giving community members a quick and easy way to help lost pets find their way back home. And to celebrate, they’re offering up to 200 free microchips this Saturday, June 28, 2025, from 12 pm to 3 pm.
“The fastest and easiest way for a lost pet to get home is through a microchip, not a shelter,” says Jessica Henry-Johnson, Executive Director. “This scanning station gives the public a tool to be part of the solution and help reunite pets without them ever entering the shelter system.”
Humane Fort Wayne released the following:
Located just outside the main entrance of Humane Fort Wayne’s new facility at 901 Leesburg Road, the 24/7 self-serve microchip station allows pet finders to scan a lost dog or cat for a chip without having to visit a veterinarian or wait for shelter hours and is now available for the public to use at any time.
The scanning station features:
A universal microchip scanner
Clear instructions on how to scan and what to do with the results
Links to microchip lookup tools and pet recovery hotlines
Guidance for pets without a chip or if owner information is outdated
A microchip is a tiny device, about the size of a grain of rice, that are implanted under a pet’s skin and contains a unique ID number that links to the pet owner’s contact information in a secure database.
Microchips are one of the most reliable ways to identify lost pets. According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, microchipped pets are significantly more likely to be reunited with their families than those without chips—especially if the chip information is kept current.
Thanks to sponsors PetLink and Bone Dry Roofing, Humane Fort Wayne is celebrating the new microchip scanner with a Free Microchip Clinic for up to 200 pets!
Join us on June 28 from 12-3 PM at 901 Leesburg Road.
This event is for dogs and cats only and families may bring more than one pet. No exam required and microchips are first come, first served. Be sure to bring dogs on a leash and cats in a carrier. Microchipping is very quick but be prepared to wait in line.
A microchip is like an ID for your pet and is the best way to get a lost pet back! Hope to see you there!
