FORT WAYNE, Ind (ADAMS) – Mayor Sharon Tucker and the City’s Public Works Department announced today that Open Streets Fort Wayne will return on Sunday, August 17, 12:00 – 4:00 p.m., for the eighth year.
This free community event is “people-powered” and provides participants with a safe space to bike, walk and play along more than 20 blocks on Calhoun Street. There will be activities for people of all ages and cultures to enjoy together with games, music, food and much more planned. The Knight Foundation is the presenting sponsor of Open Streets Fort Wayne.

This year for the first time, Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream will be giving away free Drumstick ice cream samples to attendees, and Partners in Autism will provide a Sensory Tent at the event.
“The Open Streets event exemplifies how Fort Wayne is a fun, family-friendly, and safe community,” said Mayor Tucker. “We encourage individuals and families to participate and enjoy the many quality of life amenities that our community offers as a growing and thriving city to live, work, and play.”
“We are elated that Open Streets is returning to the historic Calhoun Street Corridor for the eighth year,” said Greenways Program Manager Rick Zolman. “With more than 20 blocks of free activities, Open Streets is one of Fort Wayne’s most unforgettable experiences. This year we are delighted to be adding a number of new activity providers and returning fan favorites. We would love to have you join us by wheel, by heel, by roll, or by stroll on Sunday, August 17.”
