ST. JOSEPH CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – A state police officer is now facing charges. Indiana State Police (ISP) Trooper Andrew Kocsis is charged with felonies of theft and obstruction of justice.
Investigators say he tried to defraud a company out of over $800 that he received in a refund for a sound bar that he ordered. Kocsis claimed he received landscape paving bricks in the box instead of the soundbar in September 2024, but an employee was skeptical and called ISP. He has been placed on administrative leave without pay and is due in St. Joseph County Superior Court for an initial hearing on July 8.

An Indiana State Trooper faces charges of theft, obstruction of justice, and fraud after a lengthy investigation.
Investigators with the Indiana State Police began an investigation in mid-October 2024 into allegations of theft against Andrew G. Kocsis, 39, when contacted by an alleged victim of theft. Kocsis has been an Indiana State Trooper since 2008 and most recently has been assigned to the agency’s General Headquarters in Indianapolis.

Special Prosecutor James D. Luttrull, from Marion, IN, was assigned to this case and on June 16, 2025, charges were filed in St. Joseph County Superior Court. Probable cause was found for charges of Theft, Level 6 Felony, Obstruction of Justice, Level 6 Felony, and Fraud, Class A-Misdemeanor. Kocsis has been given an initial court date of July 8, 2025.
Kocsis will be placed on administrative leave without pay until the conclusion of the criminal proceedings and an internal investigation.
