UPDATE (June 16, 2025):
AUBURN, Ind. (ADAMS) – Prosecutors in DeKalb County have announced charges for the man at the center of an officer-involved shooting earlier this month.
The incident started on June 1st when 44-year-old Kyle Leins entered a home and pointed a gun at someone on West 11th Street.
Indiana State Police (ISP) investigated and said the Auburn officer involved was justified in his actions.
On Sunday, ISP released the following:
DeKalb County Prosecutor, Neal Blythe has released the following letter showing charges filed against Kyle Leins (44) of Auburn in the June 1 officer involved shooting that left him injured. The same letter also shows that the officer involed was legally justified in his use of force.
Mr. Leins was arrested this afternoon and booked into the DeKalb County Jail.
The Indiana State Police has nothing further to release at this time. Any questions regarding the charges should be directed to the DeKalb County Prosecutor’s Office.
*All criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

AUBURN, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Auburn police officer who shot a suspect last weekend was found to have been justified in taking the action.
The Indiana State Police and prosecutors ruled Officer Noah Woollweever was cleared of any wrongdoing. He shot and injured 44-year-old Kyle Leins, who had allegedly gone into a home and pointed a gun at someone. The incident happened on June 1st.

ORIGINAL STORY:
AUBURN, Ind. (ADAMS) – Auburn police were involved in a shooting Sunday evening that injured one person.
They were responding to a call of a man entering a home in the 300 block of West 11th Street around 6:30 p.m. and pointing a gun at another.
Police exchanged gunfire with the man, who was taken to a hospital for his injuries.
The officers involved have been placed on administrative leave as the shooting is investigated by Indiana State Police.

The Indiana State Police, at the request of the Auburn Police Department, is investigating an officer involved shooting, resulting in injuries to an Auburn man.
Preliminary investigation by Indiana State Police detectives revealed that this evening at 6:30pm a call came into DeKalb County dispatch of a male who entered a residence in the 300 block of W. 11th St in Auburn and pointed a gun at another person. Auburn Police Department responded to the location, and the man had fled the area. Auburn PD located the man a short time later near the residence. The male was armed and an exchange of gunfire ensued. The male suspect was shot and injured. As soon as it was safe to do so, Auburn Police Officers rendered first aid until medics arrived. He was then transported to a local hospital.
No officers were injured during the incident. The officers involved in the shooting will be placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure for Auburn Police Department.
This is an ongoing investigation by the Indiana State Police and more information will be released as soon as it is available.
