INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (ADAMS) – Dozens of state employees have been laid off as Indiana agencies react to recent state budget cuts.
The Indiana State Library laid off 16 employees, the Indiana School for the Deaf let 14 workers go, the Department of Education laid off six, and the Commission for Higher Education laid off three. The Indiana State Museum also laid off several employees last week.
It comes following the Braun administration asking state agencies to withhold five percent more of their budgets.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (ADAMS) – Governor Braun’s administration is ordering state agencies to withhold five percent more of their budgets in addition to cuts that were approved by lawmakers in April.
The change is different from prior years when the Office of Budget and Management directed agencies to reserve money but also gave leaders more freedom in how to achieve the savings.
OMB director Chad Ranney says costs for major programs continue to increase at unsustainable rates. He also says overcoming the challenges will require a renewed focus on fiscal responsibility and collective commitment to budget discipline.
