STEUBEN CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – Indiana State Police (ISP) say that no one was hurt in a crash that involved a school bus in Steuben County Friday morning. Police think that sun glare may have caused a Ford to rear-end the bus when it slowed to a stop at US 20 and CR 620.
ISP released the following:
At 7:30 this morning, Indiana State Police Fort Wayne District Troopers were dispatched to a crash involving a Prairie Heights Community Schools bus. The crash was on US20 near County Road 620 West in rural Steuben County.
The investigation by Sgt. Matt Lazoff shows the bus, driven by Melissa M Schlosser, was east bound on US20 when it activated it’s yellow flashing lights and began to slow. As the bus slowed to stop, a white Ford ran in to the back of the bus. The Ford was driven by, Gabriella K Phibbs. The rising sun was a factor in the crash.
There were students on board the bus at the time of the crash, but no one was injured.
As we wind down the school year, we ask that you continue to drive with caution around school buses. If there are issues outside of your control, please leave extra following distance between you and the school bus.
The Indiana State Police Department was assisted at the crash by the Steuben County Sheriff’s Department, Steuben County EMS and Salem Volunteer Fire Department.
