FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Prosecutors in Allen County say there was no criminal liability in a September officer-involved shooting.
The Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office reviewed the investigation.
A Fort Wayne Police Department officer was behind the gun that killed John Edward McCloud during a home invasion off Wells Street on September 6 of last year.
Both the Indiana State Police and the Fort Wayne Police Department concluded the officer’s actions were consistent with department policy.

The Office of the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney reviewed the investigation on April 4th, 2025, surrounding the police action shooting that occurred on
September 6th, 2024 in Fort Wayne, Indiana, which resulted in the death of John Edward McCloud. According to the Toxicology Report, from the Allen County Coroner’s Office; John McCloud had Methamphetamine in his system, at levels which have been known to cause violent and irrational behavior.
The shooting investigation was completed by the Fort Wayne Police Department and the Indiana State Police. The Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has determined that there is no evidence of criminal liability in this incident. The officer was justified in using force, as he reasonably believed that force was necessary to prevent serious bodily injury or death to himself and/or citizens of this community.
The Fort Wayne Police Department and the Indiana State Police have determined that the officer’s actions were consistent with department policy and the use of force was reasonable to prevent serious bodily injury or death to the officer and/or citizens of this community.
