FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – On April 24th, Big Brothers Big Sisters kicks off its 2024 recruitment campaign: “It Takes 2.”
The goal for the 2025 campaign is to recruit 500 volunteers across Northeast Indiana to become Big Brothers and Big Sisters within 90 days. In Allen County, BBBS aims to recruit at least 200 volunteers to be matched with the youth of the area. Bolstered recruitment efforts and extra events begin April 24th and last through August 2nd.
BBBS released the following:
Big Brothers Big Sisters undertakes this challenge to find matches for the many children in the community still waiting for a mentor. Currently, there are over 300 Littles on the waiting list ready to be matched with Bigs. However, the actual number of children in need whom Big Brothers Big Sisters aims to serve is potentially larger, with Indiana ranking 27th for overall child well-being, according to the Indiana Youth Institute.
This year’s “It Takes 2” theme is designed to emphasize the simplicity of the program. All it takes is two people and two hours to make a lasting impact together! The two people (the Little and Big) meet up for a minimum of two hours each month in the Community-Based program and for a half-hour weekly lunch, two hours a month in total, in the School Buddies program.
However, if now is not the time for you to mentor, there are plenty of other meaningful ways you can aid the mission! Invite us into your workplace, faith groups, or professional organizations to share the word about mentorship, BBBS, and ways to get involved. You can also refer a friend or family member who would be a great mentor.
