The Lagrange Co. Sheriff’s Office released the following Monday afternoon:
Reference the identification of the male in Saturday’s death investigation at the Lagrange County Jail. Family has been notified and his name is William Howard Ellis of Sherwood Mi. The investigation is ongoing through Steuben County Sheriff’s Office.

LAGRANGE CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – The LaGrange County Sheriff’s Office says an inmate died in the LaGrange County Jail on Saturday.
According to the office, the man was found unresponsive in their cell around 2:30 p.m..
The LaGrange County Sheriff’s Office says that life-saving measures were used, but were unsuccessful. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The man has only been identified as a 37-year-old.

On April 12, 2025, at 2:28 PM a 37-year-old male was found unresponsive in a cell at the LaGrange County Jail. Life-saving measures were taken but were ultimately unsuccessful.
Assisting the LaGrange County Sheriff’s Office at the scene was Parkview EMS, LaGrange Volunteer Fire, LaGrange Police Department, and Indiana DNR.
The incident is being investigated by the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, more information will be released after the family is notified and then once the investigation is complete.
