FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Historic Northeast Neighborhoods of Forest Park, North Anthony, and Northside are offering free trees for residents living in the area. The tree giveaway, in partnership with the Tree Canopy Growth Fund and the City of Fort Wayne’s Neighborhoods Department, is set for Saturday, April 12 from 8 a.m. to noon, or as long as supplies last.
The event will take place in Northside Park in the parking lot off Parnell Avenue. 250 trees, including redbuds, white pines, serviceberries and cucumber magnolias, will be available.
The following was released:
The tree giveaway is part of the Historic Northeast 2025 Plan implementation. Goal #1 of the plan calls for promoting improvements that make the neighborhoods more appealing, connected and economically strong. Part of achieving that goal is increasing the area’s tree canopy coverage so it meets or exceeds the citywide average of 24 percent.
“We held our first tree giveaway last fall, and it was incredibly popular,” said Lori Stombaugh, Northside Neighborhood Association president. “We’re grateful to be working with the Tree Canopy Growth Fund to make this next giveaway possible. These trees will make our neighborhoods even more beautiful, as well as help keep them cooler in the hot summer months.”
